This week I got to work in the nursery. when we started there were no babies so I went with the nurses to help out in labor and delivery. They had 2 imminent births and 2 preterm labors being monitored. Finally I got a baby. I saw him born and the nurse and I did the assessment in the room, then we took him to the nursery and I got to bathe him. This was the mothers first baby and she needed alot of teaching about breastfeeding. I answered all of her questions and showed her how to get the baby to latch on correctly and how to use the breast pump. I really enjoyed helping her. I feel like I actually helped her. I can't wait till next week.

Jessica,
You started off in OB hitting the floor running! To see a birth, help with the 1st assessment, hear the nurses and doctor explain things, and give a first bath was an awesome 1st day! The second day you did lots of teaching and assessing also. I hope you got lots of your paperwork done from these experiences. You did your charting well on the baby flowsheet and narrative note. You did very well in clinical last week!
