I was assigned to a 24 year old mother and her baby girl. This was her second child delivered by Cesarean section (the first was also a girl and also delivered C-Section.) Mother was trying to breastfeed and needed encouragement and positive reinforcement. I fear she will give up before giving it a chance to benefit she and her daughter. The lactation team seems very helpful and wish they had been around 20 years ago.
My experience was nothing that I expected it to be and for the first time I really felt uncomfortable and recognized that I was having a tough time adjusting on the floor.
Mrs. Holcomb helped me reassess what I thought was the fundus but in retrospect was more likely a distended bladder. Big difference but both able to be felt clearly. I am also more clear about rating reflexes and checking for and recognizing clonus.
I was very impressed with the suturing done for the C-Section and Mrs. Holcomb explained that it allowed them to cut and pull from both sides.
Hoping for a better week next week and will remain optimistic that OB will not be the end of my dreams for a career in nursing. Hope everyone has a great week.
